Awana Jacob, a police officer hooked up to Eket division in Akwa Ibom state, has allegedly shot useless one Emmanuel Dickson at a burial ceremony held in his father’s compound at Edoho Ukpong road, Idua village, Eket, Each day Submit reviews.
It was gathered that the stated officer after reportedly capturing the deceased on Sunday, October, 10 at about 5:05pm, fled the scene and latter resurfaced, claiming it was an unintentional discharge.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, informed newsmen that the deceased was shot on the top when he was attempting to leap via the fence as a crew of law enforcement officials invaded the venue of the burial ceremony.
The chairman Ukwa Village council, Elder Samuel Etukudoh who confirmed the incident on Thursday demanded justice including that the deceased was his brother in-law.
Narrating the incident, he stated, “It was about 8am when my spouse referred to as to inform me of the incident. My spouse is the sister to the deceased. I used to be knowledgeable that my brother in-law got here again from the opening of a mourning home, simply to tidy himself and return once more.
“Ultimately, the police bashed into the compound. They’ve a cultural group referred to as Nkotriko. So, the police simply bashed in and so they began working and this boy in query jumped from the fence simply to flee and the police shot him useless and what he’s attempting to inform us is that it’s an unintentional discharge.
“When I was informed, I had to call the DPO and he said he has just received the information. The following day I called the commissioner of police, Andrew Amiengheme.”
Additionally, an elder sister to the deceased, Princess Nelly Dickson, expressed shock over the premature demise of her youthful brother, including that she is but to see her brother’s corpse as at press time.
She stated, “It was on Sunday, I used to be in a salon, my mum referred to as me to come back to the home. After I arrived I noticed a big crowd within the compound and I went straight to fulfill with my mother and father to know what was occurring.
“They told me that my brother went to a mourning house and some people were telling them to rush that some policemen came and were shooting. As i am speaking to you I have not seen my brother’s corpse.”
In the meantime, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon when contacted stated the data he had in regards to the incident was sketchy, including that till he has a full grasp of the incident he wouldn’t have the ability to inform what really occurred.
