Nigerian Senate To Screen Buhari’s Nominees To Replace Akpabio, Nwajiuba, Other Ex-Ministers Wednesday
Ahmad Lawan, the Nigerian Senate President, has stated that the higher chamber would display screen the seven ministerial nominees whose names had been submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
President Buhari after the resignation of a few of his former ministers to pursue their political careers, forwarded seven names to the higher legislative chamber.
The ministerial nominees, if profitable, will take up the vacant positions.
On the shut of the plenary on Wednesday, Lawan disclosed the date for the screening of the nominees.
“The ministerial nominees will be screened on Wednesday, next week,” he stated.
President Buhari, in a letter dated June 15, 2022, requested the Senate to substantiate the nomination of seven ministerial nominees.
He stated the affirmation request was made in accordance with Part 147(2) of the 1999 Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The nominees for affirmation are Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh – Abia State; Umana Okon Umana – Akwa Ibom State; Ekumankama Joseph Nkama- Ebonyi State; Goodluck Nanah Opiah – Imo State; Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegoroye – Ondo State; and Odum Udi – Rivers State.
The nominees might be screened individually by the higher chamber throughout the plenary on Wednesday.
