Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits New Zealand with hundreds feeling a shake

New Zealand has been rocked by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as hundreds of Kiwis report feeling a shake. 

The quake struck about 15km north-east of Tūrangi, on the North Island, at 12.23pm on Thursday, at a depth of 5km.

More than 1600 people have reported feeling the earthquake on the GeoNet website, with 37 nearby residents saying the shakes were ‘strong’.
