Jack Wilshere reveals he will ‘have a conversation’ about training at former club Arsenal after manager Mikel Arteta said the ‘door was always open’

  • Jack Wilshere made 197 first-team appearances for Arsenal over ten years
  • The 29-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Bournemouth
  • Mikel Arteta said last week the ‘door was always open’ for Wilshere at Arsenal
  • And now Wilshere admits he may well take up Arteta’s offer to train at the club

Jack Wilshere says he will ‘have a conversation’ with Arsenal about training with his beloved club after boss Mikel Arteta hinted at the prospect last week.

Former England international Wilshere, who came through the youth system at the Gunners and played for the first-team from 2008-2018, is currently still a free agent and most recently trained with Serie B side Como.

Last week, Arteta insisted ‘our doors are always open’ for Wilshere at the club and now Wilshere has revealed he may well take up that offer, insisting he is interested in being back ‘in a team environment.’

‘I really enjoyed playing with him, sharing a dressing room with him. To hear him come out and say the door is always open is nice,’ Wilshere told Sky Sports News.

‘I think that it can only help me. As you said, being a round good players, training with world-class players and, as well, just being in a team environment is something that I am interested in.

‘I am sure that I will have a conversation with someone at the club over the next couple of days.’

Wilshere, 29, played alongside Arteta at the Emirates from 2011-2016, with the pair winning two FA Cup trophies together.

Last week, prior to the 1-0 win against Norwich on Saturday, Arteta said: He is someone that I know who I shared the dressing room with, who is so loved around the club with every person here and our doors are always open.’

Wilshere is still a fans favourite at Arsenal, where he made 197 first-team appearances in total.

He played 18 times for a Bournemouth side who reached the Championship play-offs last season.

He also has 34 England caps to his name but his career has taken a turn for the worse in recent years due to a lack of fitness and numerous injuries.
