In this article we outlined the most basic procedures for any student to obtain his or her National Identification Number (NIN). As of now, candidates who have registered and obtained their NINs will be able to register for the 2022 JAMB UTME. The importance of obtaining your NIN now cannot be overstated, as it may result in a student’s inability to complete certain important tasks in school or NYSC in the near future, thus the need to obtain it now .

In light of this, we believe it is necessary to provide all students, as well as prospective UTME candidates, with instructions on how to register and obtain their NIN before the 2022 UTME registration period begins, which is expected to begin soon. Candidates for the 2022 UTME are also advised to begin studying for their exams .

Before we proceed to the steps to take in obtaining your Nin., Lets take a look at what is NIN.

What is NIN?

NIN is an abbreviation for National Identification Number. It is made up of 11 non-intelligible numbers that are chosen at random and assigned to an individual after their enrolment in the National Identity Database is complete (NIDB).
Once assigned to a person, a NIN can never be reassigned, given, or used by another person, making it unique in nature. When an individual dies, his or her NIN is retired once a death certificate is presented to the Commission and the individual’s death is established.

The NIN is used to link all of an individual’s records in the database and to establish or verify his or her identity. All citizens and legal residents of Nigeria, starting at the age of zero (birth), are eligible to apply for NINs.

First, Confirm if you already have a NIN.

How to Check if you already have a NIN

The first step before registering for your NIN is to see if you already have one. To find out, dial *346# on the phone you used to register for the NIN to retrieve your NIN. When your NIN is displayed, you can either take a screenshot or write it down somewhere. Please keep in mind that you are not permitted to share your NIN information on any social media platform. You may, however, share it if trusted institutions request it. Obtaining your NIN by dialing *346# is completely FREE on all Nigerian mobile networks, including MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, and 9mobile.
