David Beckham to attend Soccer Aid for UNICEF in his senior role as Goodwill Ambassador

David Beckham is set to present the trophy to the winning team at this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF on the 4th September at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in his senior role of Goodwill Ambassador of 16 years. 

The footballer, 45, has also announced that the UNICEF partner the Children’s Investment Fund will match every donation at the event, so that everything is doubled for the charity, which could mean a total of £6.3 million. 

He will be reuniting with his former teammates, Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville, and Paul Scholes at the event.

Other celebrity names which will be involved in this year’s event include, Usain Bolt, Olly Murs, Liv Cooke, Sir Mo Farah, Tom Grennan, Fara Williams, Martin Compston, Ore Oduba and Kelly Smith.   

David said of the match: ‘I’m delighted to be attending Soccer Aid for UNICEF in my role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. 

‘What a year it has been for football and I can’t wait to watch England take on the Soccer Aid World XI in what is set to be an incredible match.’

He continued:  ‘I have been a Goodwill Ambassador for over 16 years and have seen first-hand the incredible work that UNICEF does for children around the world. 

‘Soccer Aid for UNICEF has never been more important, with the Covid crisis making life for kids in the world’s poorest countries even harder. ‘

The football star concluded: ‘With the support of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, donations will go twice as far in supporting the health and nutrition of kids around the world.’

Taking to Instagram, David announced his participation by posting a video of a past soccer aid event, which shows some skills being shown off by footballer Roberto Carlos.

Taking to his stories, he told is followers that he is looking forward to the upcoming football match and told them the Children’s Investment Fun Foundation will be matching the donations.  

The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation is a charity which focuses specifically on improving children’s lives, their donation will go straight to UNICEF in aiding child malnutrition. 

UNICEF is a leading organisation in preventing issues such as child hungry, and provides 80% of the world’s lifesaving food. 

Steven Waugh, Interim Executive Director at the UK Committee for UNICEF, has said: ‘The support of CIFF is vital and every pound we raise from the campaign is another strike against the pandemic.’ 

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, there has been disruption in distributing food and medical supplies to those in need.   

Since 2006, when UNICEF UK Ambassador Robbie Williams co-founded the concept, Soccer Aid for UNICEF has raised over £47m to help give children all over the world a childhood full of play.

The former England captain recently shared a couple of photos on Instagram of him posing alongside his youngest sons with his newly dyed bleach blonde locks. 

While Romeo copied his dad by going blond some time ago, Cruz decided to up the ante and recently dyed his hair a bubblegum pink – prompting David to switch up his look to remind his brood ‘who did it first’ on the photo sharing app.
